From a Suitcase Full of Seed to a National Resource for Australian Plants
Paul D. Chambers, C.H. and founder of Australian Outback Plants has been growing and planting Australian trees and plants in the United States for over 40 years. Arriving in the U.S. with a suitcase full of seeds, he recognized the potential for Australian plants in the desert southwest. All seeds and cuttings are first generation endemic to Australia and Paul makes regular research visits to the Australian Outback to expand our selection.
Over the years, that idea grew into a large-scale operation with more than 100,000 Australian native plants and trees, over 80 greenhouses, and 50 acres covered in Australian trees and Eucalyptus plantation. The company has supported retail outlets, commercial landscape projects, trade professionals, and specialty growing needs across the country.

Paul’s experience goes far beyond plant production. His background includes horticultural education, major landscape projects, speaking engagements, zoo association involvement, and decades of work improving American landscapes with water-wise Australian species.
Today, Australian Outback Plantation is also a major supplier of eucalyptus leaves and feed for koalas across zoos in America, along with browse for other exotic animals.
